My Rebel Highlander is the sixth book in my Highland Adventure Series.
Known for his wicked wit, fierce loyalty, and skills in battle, Robert “Rebbie” MacInnis, the Earl of Rebbinglen, loves freedom and has no plans of marrying anytime soon. But when his father, a powerful Scottish marquess, signs a contract betrothing Rebbie to an earl’s young daughter, he is furious. If he has to marry, he’s determined to choose his own bride, though he has no inkling who he would wish to wed until fate intervenes to remind him of one fair-haired, nameless beauty and the passionate night they spent together years ago. A night forever etched in his memory.
Lady Calla Ferguson, a penniless widow with a young son, is forced to seek employment as her cousin’s companion in order to pay her late husband’s massive gambling debt. Having been ignored or mistreated most of her life, Calla has become a resourceful survivor who will stop at nothing to get what she wants—safety and security for her son and herself. Wealthy merchant, Claybourne cares little for the money the Earl of Stanbury owed him; he simply wants the earl’s beautiful, voluptuous widow and he’ll do whatever it takes to get his hands on her, even kidnapping and blackmail.
When Rebbie happens upon Claybourne abducting Calla, he rescues her and hides her in a secluded castle deep in the wild Scottish Highlands. Calla conceals her passionate spirit beneath reserve and duty, along with closely-guarded secrets which, if exposed, could ruin both her life and her son’s. Years ago, she lost her heart to a dark-eyed stranger she never thought to see again, but now he’s her protector. Rebbie craves another pleasurable night like the one they shared in the past, and she cannot resist the fiery passion that echoes deep in her heart and soul. Soft but strong, Calla sparks within Rebbie a desperate hunger and a need to protect her. But will her secrets tear them apart?
What inspired this story?
Rebbie, the hero of this story, has been a secondary character in books two through five of this series, a friend of the heroes in most cases. I’d always planned to give him his own story, I just made him wait a while. 🙂 He didn’t mind since he’s so against marriage anyway. Will he change his mind when a mysterious lady from his past shows up again?
Why do you write romance?
I believe love conquers all and that love is the most powerful force in the universe. I never get tired of exploring the multifaceted process of falling in love. Each character is a unique individual and how they experience these emotions is different each time. I love it when characters I love triumph over negative emotions or evil villains and find the happiness they’ve worked so hard for.
Where is your favorite place in the world?
Scotland! 🙂 My books are set there and I absolutely LOVE visiting Scotland for research. It’s supposed to be work but I enjoy it so much, it can’t really be work, can it? 🙂 Nothing is better than exploring castle ruins and imagining what it must have been like in its heyday, imagining who lived there and what they experienced. What was daily life like then? Sure, we can research, read about it and watch movies, but I’d really like to see history for a few minutes, first hand. I also find it important to visit my settings to get the descriptions and atmospheric details right. My books are set all over Scotland and I love describing the varied landscapes.
Which element of story creation is your favorite?
I enjoy watching characters come to life right before my eyes. They show me and tell me who they are, I hear them talking, and then I record what I’m seeing and hearing. I also love creating Scottish settings and giving those descriptive details that will hopefully take the reader away to historic Scotland.
What inspires you? What motivates you?
Scotland inspires me and so does the idea of creating Highland heroes the reader can fall in love with. I love exploring relationships and emotions. Readers motivate me to write because they buy my books and send messages or emails letting me know they enjoyed them and want the next book. Yay! This makes me want to write more and more. I love entertaining people in my own way and giving them a fun escape for a few hours.
